Finally a good lock that's easy to carry

@WELLSFARGO DOWNTOWN ON 5TH AND B

The Abus Bordo revolutionized the mundane bike lock and established an entirely new type of lock; the new "folding" style. The folding design makes an ideal combination of security, weight, and transportability. This lock is incredibly fast to deploy and easy to use. The frame mount attaches to any frame with velcro/silicon straps or can be installed in place of a water bottle cage (way sexier). Just like all locks this is available in a variety of security levels to suit various scenarios and rider needs. I chose the uGrip 5700, because the automatic lock cylinder is nice and easy to use. The folding design resists crowbars and the rivets between the links are cut resistant. Oh and did I mention, you can lock two bikes with it. The 85cm length gives this lock tons of versatility.

Two wheels and two frames no problem
The frame mount is awesome, 90% of the users won't have this problem, but when I am riding around fast I hear the lock jiggle in the holster. To solve this problem I installed cloth tape all over the inside of the case. If you get a Bordo style lock with a top securing strap you won't have to do this.
I have so many different bikes I tend to leave the frame mount in my pile of stuff in the garage and put it in my fanny pack. Putting it in my fanny pack has another advantage. While transporting the lock I leave it unlocked (leaving the ends apart) so when I reach my destination I don't even need to get my keys out to deploy the lock. The premium automatic lock cylinder makes locking up a snap.

Leaving it unlocked during transport for a quick lock up
I have been using it for about 6 months without any issues. Abus rates the uGrip 5700 as security level 7. Good for medium to low theft risk. In higher risk scenarios I pair it with my Abus U-Lock U-Mini 40. Instead of a heavy chain lock to secure my front wheel to my frame, I get to bring my light compact uGrip lock when I go to those sketchy places. That being said I think the uGrip makes an excellent secondary lock option in higher risk scenarios. I really trust this lock. I have locked up all my nice bikes with it all over San Diego.

MSRP is $80 but its available everywhere for $60 now at Hollands Bicycles in Coronado. Any bike shop can order you one if they don't have it in stock. Just ask! Support your local bike shop and order one there. Every bike shop should stock folding locks. Yes they cost more but only because they are superior!

***I cant wait to get a Bordo Centium 6010/90***

    Who is bojac?

    My whole life revolves around the two wheeled human power multiplier that is the bicycle. My name is Jacob Abrantes, better known as Bojac (an anagram for Jacob) I am 27 years old and I ride bicycles in San Diego, California. I have been commuting, no joke, since I was 4 years old. Now as an adult, bicycles are my life. I try to ride as much as I can, my favorite place to train is Mount Soledad in La Jolla. I try to foster cycling in everyone that I meet, almost everyday I make another rider out of an ordinary person. Cycling is my therapy; my bike is my therapist. Bikes saved my life and gave me a purpose. Bicycles can save the world. blah blah blah lets ride!
